Once you bring up hyperterm,

hitting return should give you the line asking what
terminal type (this is from the TVS). Use the same
cable you use for your TVS program (a kxtd cable
should work too). a std modem cable will not work.
make sure you set hyperterm using the same port and
settings as the other program.

use a led serial tester(radio shack). td and rd should
be green, the other five leds should be red. or unplug
the cable at the tvs and short pin 2 and 3 and see if
characters typed show up on the screen. if you plug
up to the kxt, within 1 minute you should see the
modem setup string, followed by smdr data. (just
another test for the cable and hyperterm)

btw, the tvs will work up to 19.2k even though it
defaults to 9600. If you do tvs drive backups, this
can speed things up.

you might try running hyperterm, set the port your tvs
cable is on for 9600 baud etc. hit return, press 1
for terminal type (NOT 2 for vt) select utilities.
type help, the error log should be elog. i think quit
is the exit command (its on the help list).
