I had a similar situation with our old KXTD1232/MacroVoice MVX100. The
light was lit even when no messages were on the VM system. On top of that,
when the lit message light was pressed, it dialed an extension, rather than
the VM system. Well, it turned out that the message light has a function to
"leave a message" for another extension independent of the VM. When dialing
an extension internally, the right sequence of buttons can program the
called extension message light to blink, and call back the calling
extension. The fix? Let the message light do its job. press the lit message
light, answer the extension that rings, hang up.
