Running through an analog system won't get you much improvement, probably 33
at best.

If you have enough wire pairs around the house you have a couple options.
1. run one or two direct lines to the computers so they can switch to a free
line to get on.
2. run one direct line to all the computers and they have to take turns.
3. network the computers and turn on internet-sharing... not too difficult.

Networking has options
1. run network cable around the house and network the pcs
2. use the one phone line you connected in step two above and purchase
"phone line network" cards
3. set up a wireless network

Internet sharing works ok (on win 98 pc's or better) and is built in. You
can get software to do a better job such as SyGate.
Then when you finally get dsl or a cable modem you will already be networked
and you'll get the better speeds.

We used SyGate internet sharing on a 56K modem before I was able to get DSL.
It kept the family somewhat happy, except my 15 year old who wanted all the
bandwidth for his games.

Note - if you have 4-pair cable home run around the house you can actually
use 2 pairs for the network and 1 or 2 for the phones. Even if it's cat-3 it
is 10Base-T compatible.
NOT the best way to set up a network, BUT it works, and you don't even need
that speed for internet access.

good luck
Charles
