I get about 39,000bps through my KXT-616. Not fast enough.

With the modem wired direct to the MPOP via CAT5 I get 49,000-52,000bps.

I wanted the speed AND have the CO line appear on the key system without
people barging into a data call in progress so........

I wired the modem jack through an old Melco 1A2 "A-lead" adapter to the
MPOP. This is the adapter that Bell used to use to add SLTs (usually
"Design Line" sets, aka Mickey Mouse Phones) to a 1A2 system. It
requires -24V battery. This provides a relay closure when the modem is "off
hook". I think you can still get something like them.

I installed a 4PDT 24VDC relay at the KTU which pulls in with the modem
going off-hook. When the relay pulls in, 2 things happen: Tip and Ring
(which is bridged to the CO line before the Melco "A-lead" adapter) is
opened to the Pana KTU. Another contact is wired to short out a station
port which is programmed with the "Pickup Dial" feature. This is programmed
to pickup the specific CO line. The Pana waits about 2-3 seconds to do
this, so the Pana's attempt to pick up that CO line occurs well after the
relay has opened the T/R connection; no chance of the KTU going in on the
data call.

To users of the key system, that CO line is busy and cannot be accessed; to
the Modem, it is connected directly to the CO without going through the key
system. When the modem disconnects, the CO line is restored to the KTU, and
everyone is happy.

Only problem is when someone fires up the internet while someone is on the
line with the Pana KTU; the voice call is dropped
off..........................
