I thought it was well understood that 56k modems *always* get speeds of 33.6Kbps
or less if there is more than one analogue link in the path. Your modem is an
analogue device so it's plugged into an analogue port on your KXT. That's one
link. Are your outside lines digital or analgoue? Rhetoric question: I can
already tell that they are analogue. Two links. That's already one analogue
link too many, so that's why you get the slower speed.
You could replace yor outside lines with digital lines (e.g. ISDN). That does
work (assuming that there are no other analogue links in the path.)
