Joel,

Speaking of large displays... I'm moving most of your
post to our graphics program to make a poster for the
shop! You so well defined the Pano attitude!!!

For 10 years I've said they should fire all the white
shirts in Secacaus and replace them with engineers
that used and knew telephony. A friend that has been
a Pano consumer electronics dealer for years assured
me "that will never happen, it's ALWAYS the bottom
line... PERIOD" You like, and buy what we make or you
buy something else. We make the best there is.

On your CID problem.

1. the SMDR CID is useless since it is truncated.
Monday, I'll go in and set the RC and AN fudge bits,
but I think it's truncated there too. (Like 10 of the
16 characters)

2. it might be possible to "graft" a large character
LCD display to a 7433 type set. I think the display
board in the set uses the industry standard display
driver chips and should drive a larger display board.
(see Digikey Catalog) You would be stuck with a 3
line display unless you set a PIC type processor
between the set and new display to "rearrange" the
character layout. (its an 8 bit parallel stream to run
the Fujitsu display chips almost everyone uses on
lcds)

3. some of the new rolling led displays used for
advertising in stores offer a serial port programming
option. it should be possible to use a pc with a CID
enabled modem and maybe a Basic Language program to
catch the CID from the modem, then "upload" a "new"
message to the advertising board. I was in an
Emergency Operations Center recently that had a PC
feeding one of the big single line COLOR displays.
Text went from green to yellow to red as the police
and fire call load went up.

I don't know if you will make more money than you did
in support by doing the sales/install side! Maybe
margins are better where you live ;-) We recently had
an applicant storm out when we suggested we didn't
think he would get his "at least low to mid 6 digit"
income figure for sales. Anyone out there really
doing that selling 24 co line or less Panos?
(Luckily- we still enjoy our job and can make a little
less ;-)
