Joel,
I don't know if this idea would work for you, but have you considered using
something like the TV Messenger (www.trinexus.com) which superimposes CID on
a video image (or a blue screen). Depending on the size of the TV, you can
read it from afar. You'll have to decide how to get the CID data to the
deivce (split off of source, or TD171). It even has a remote control to
scroll through the data.
