Honestly, I don't know. It happened to you and to Olivier, but definitely not to everyone. If you have plenty of time, you can check the git log, and locate the time when it went wrong, and maybe draw some conclusion. Now that we have the tool, we can check translations after an upgrade (say 4.1 -> 4.2), and we can detect, if there are problems with the upgrade process.
