Are you sure that you need to translate the links as well? I tested it
locally with the esperanto translation where I’ve only translated the
slug names and not the links. The generated HTML has the correct links
with the translated slug names. I wonder if Hugo is doing something
clever to detect when you make a link to a Markdown file with a
different slug name in the header. Maybe it just automatically rewrites
all the links in that case.
