That's true. When I got my first Slackware installation it was called
"Linux", and I was wondering what is that GNU written on half the man
pages I read. I found out only years later. Probably something like
ten years. GNU software is the basis of pretty much any free system
(and some others) today but it is virtually invisible.

I also think that GNU system with Linux as the kernel is insufficient,
at least technically.
