You have to recompile the model if you changed the file name of the
texture, which you can't do unless you have the uncompiled file that
corresponds with that model. It's a bit like re-texturing a map: you need
the bsp file to do it.

On the other hand, if the file names are the same, your texture might
simply overwrite the default texture once everything is compiled in the
VPK. Not sure how that works though.
