From Lyn Gerry - [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Amy Goodman spoke at a dinner for the National Lawyers Guild in Los Angeles over the weekend. At the dinner, filled with Lawyer's Guild diners plus about 100 people who came just to see Amy, she said that the reason KPFK manager Mark Schubb kept her pitching off the air was that he objected to her mentioning the opportunity for listeners to become active on the local board and the national board. Schubb told her on the phone that he didn't like the local board and he didn't want her to talk about it on the air. She refused to thus censor herself and was then cancelled from the air during most of the fund drive, with the lie broadcast repeatedly via cart that she had refused to cooperate with the fund drive. She was mortified that old tapes of "DN" were played, giving the impression, for instance, that in May, 2001, she had finally realized that George W. Bush had been selected president. Needless to say, she received many enthusiastic standing ovations, and afterwards, human rights activist and purged KPFK programmer Blase Bonpane described her as being the best journalist in the country. The crowd agreed.
