Education not Incarceration will host a 1 day conference: Education or Incarceration June 30, 2005 At United Teachers of Los Angeles The conference will provide a forum to discuss relationships between education and incarceration, organizing strategies, coalition building among youth, teachers, parents and community organizations. Possible workshop topics include: Why are we closing schools instead of prisons? Tearing down barriers to reentry. Criminalization vs. Empowerment of Youth Zero Tolerance for Zero Tolerance Policies & Military Recruitment School discipline and the police. Tracking students, drop outs and criminal justice. The crackdown on immigrant youth Coalition building. Fighting for a humane budget. If you or your organization would like to develop a panel or workshop or participate on a panel, please send: a brief description of what you would like to present, tell us about yourself and/or your organization.
