What: Hollywood faith communities forge innovative new partnership
and push for a comprehensive, "one-stop" center for homeless
services with permanent supportive housing for adults and families.
300 people will urge their City Council Members, other elected
officials, and community stakeholders to pledge their support.
Where: Hollywood United Methodist Church, 6817 Franklin Avenue
(northwest corner of Franklin and Highland; approach intersection
from the north to enter parking lot.)
When: Wednesday, March 30 at 7:00 p.m.
Who: - L.A. City Council Member Eric Garcetti (Council District
13).
- Director of the Hollywood Community Redevelopment Agency,
Helmi Hisserich.
- Hollywood Police Captain, Michael Downing.
- Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President, Leron Gubler.
- 300 community residents, clergy leaders, and other
community leaders.
Why: Los Angeles needs to develop homeless services beyond Skid
Row. The streets of Hollywood are home to hundreds of chronically
homeless adults and families who have no place to go. We need to
get smart and create services and housing where the homeless people
are, not where some people wish they would stay.
The Executive Committee of the Bring LA Home 10-Year Plan to
End Homelessness (a County-wide public-private strategic planning
process) has recently stated that the needs of chronically homeless
adults and families must be our first priority in the campaign to
end homelessness in Los Angeles.
Hollywood InterfaithPICO is forging an innovative new
partnership to do more than just manage homelessness, but to take a
step toward ending it by placing services and permanent housing
where hundreds of homeless people are, and by addressing the needs
of the chronically homeless and families first.
Visuals: - 300 people rallying in support of homeless adults
and families.
- Personal testimony from a formerly homeless person in
supportive housing.
- Testimony from community stakeholders including police &
business leaders.
