Earlier today, I received another email in my inbox
from a guy named Darrel Hiatt. As some of you may
already know, I've received dozens of interesting
email messages over the past couple of weeks. One of
them was so interesting to me that I actually was
motivated to file a report about it with the Anaheim
Police department.
Anyways, Mr. Hiatt writes the following message under
the subject header "flash litE":
THE TAPE DOES NOT LIE,SHE STOLE IT.
FRY THE BITCH! SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL
POLICE!
I can only assume that when Mr. Hiatt uses words and
phrases like "flash litE", "THE TAPE DOES NOT LIE",
"SHE STOLE IT", and "SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL POLICE!", he
perhaps saw an article I posted on the internet about
Theresa Dang, a good friend of mine who has been
accused by the Garden Grove Police Department of
"stealing" a flashlight that fell out of the pockets
of one of their officers on the night of May 25th.
I'm confused, however. Mr. Hiatt says "FRY THE BITCH"
in the email message he sent to me. Well, I don't know
of any "BITCH". But since this word is used
pejoratively toward women who stand up for themselves,
could he be indirectly referring to my good friend
Theresa Dang? Who else could he be talking about?
She's a very strong and intelligent young woman.
But one thing I found interesting about the email
address Mr. Hiatt uses, however, is that it was sent
out from a company account. Understand that the root
of "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" is "HHHiat.com". Well, I
typed in "www.HHHiat.com" into my Mozilla Firefox
browser and discovered to my amazement that it happens
to be the website for one of California's biggest
furniture manufacturers: HH Hiatt Furniture.
According to www.hhhiatt.com/about_us.cfm:

the Hiatt family following World
War II, the company has continued
a tradition of high quality modern
furniture for three generations.
Hiatt Furniture is the longest

To learn more a bit more, I typed the words "HH Hiat
Furniture" into Google Local and found the telephone
number for that company. I called it up and asked the
woman who took my call if somebody by the name of
Darrel Hiatt is employed by that company (you know,
the name of the guy who sent me an email from that
company's account saying "FRY THE BITCH"). She
acknowledged that in fact, a Mr. Hiatt does work
there. When I asked her what title he happens to hold,
she told me she had to check. I was put on hold. About
30 seconds later, she came back on the telephone and
told me that Mr. Hiatt was the Vice-President. Wow!
I'm really impressed now. This dude not only probably
owns the company, but he helps run it, too.
Now before I go on, you need to understand that if in
fact the email I got this morning did come from
Darrell Hiatt -- which there is strong evidence
proving that it did -- then I fully support his right
to free speech and expression. I have no problem with
him whatsoever using the email account of the company
he owns and operates to express his disagreements with
me. I mean, as the Vice-President of one of
California's biggest furniture manufacturers, I defend
his right to send me unsolicited emails telling me to
"FRY THE BITCH". That's what makes America such a
great place to live.
But I'm posting this message on this listserv to let
every woman here know that if this is really what Mr.
Hiatt thinks about women -- especially women of color
who stand up for themselves when they are attacked by
other privileged white men like himself -- then you
might want think twice about spending your hard earned
cash buying anything manufactured by his company when
you go looking for a brand new couch. I'm not mistaken
about this, am I?
By the way, Mr. Hiatt's email has been reproduced
below in it's entirety as I received it in my inbox
without any editing or alteration whatsover. Make of
it as you wish. But I'd advise against people doing
anything illegal. However, a big protest held on the
sidewalk outside the headquarters of his
Hawthorne-based company wouldn't hurt now, would it?
