Below a message about a vigil against nukes on Hiroshima anniversary. Later that day (7 pm) I am speaking at a conference on the impact of national liberation struggles of the 60s and 70s, at the Filipino Workers Center, 153 Glendale Blvd in LA, 2nd floor -- that's on gLendale just before it curves under the First Street bridge and becomes Second St just northwest of downtown.--Michael

This Saturday the Eagle Rock peace vigil will emphasize nuclear disarmament for people who cannot or do not want to travel further for other events. Time: 4:30 to 6:30 (CHANGED from 3:30 to 5:30). Location: the intersection of Colorado Blvd. and Eagle Rock Blvd., in front of the Shell. Use one of our signs or bring your own. In a recent interview, Noam Chomsky underscored the increasing danger of a nuclear exchange between Russia and the U.S. This would be caused by an accidental launch from Russia due to its deteriorating computer command infrastructure, Chomsky said. During his 2000 presidential campaign, even George W. Bush promised to vastly reduce America's nuclear arsenal, supported by people like Brent Scowcroft and Henry Kissinger. In hindshight, we can see that Bush's pledge was just another lie. However, it showed that Republicans have also supported nuclear disarmament. ****** ALSO: On Saturday, September 24th, we will have our weekly peace demonstration as an alternative to the larger demonstration that will be happening in Venice the same day. This, too, is an alternative for people who do not want to travel far. Same time and same location. "I have seen that we do not intend to free but to subjugate the Philippines. And so I am an anti-imperialist. I am opposed to having the eagle put its talons on any other land. . . . I have a strong aversion to sending our bright boys out there to fight with a disgraced musket under a polluted flag." -- Mark Twain, Vice President, Anti-Imperialist League, 1900 ------------------------ Yahoo!
