I am writing to ask you to write a crucial Letter to the Editor about why Governor Schwarzenegger should sign the two election integrity bills Bowen Bill SB 370 and Umberg's AB1636.
Letters on SB 370 are especially important. We will have no verifiable way to audit or recount elections if the bill is vetoed. Alarmingly, Secretary of State McPherson has urged the Governor to veto it. So we must act--right away. Our main goal in letter writing is to raise awareness with the California newspapers of citizen interest in these bills. We need their editorial endorsement of SB 370. Do not worry about making your letters Perfect Prose - our goal is volume, not necessarily getting the letters actually printed. Your letters will be read and noted by the Editorial Staff, even if they are not published. Even a four-sentence letter is worth sending, As you know, both bills were passed by an overwhelming majority of both the state Assembly and Senate. All that remains is for the Governor to sign and get us one step closer to more secure elections. *Time is of the essence as he has until October 9th t o make his decision on these bills.
