Two events will take place at the Southern California Library this
weekend. On Saturday, October 22, 2 p.m., James Yee, the former U.S.
Army Muslim Chaplain at Guantanamo Bay, talks about his secret arrest
by the U.S. government and his ensuing ordeal. On Sunday, October 23, 2
p.m., there will be a discussion of organizing by indigenous people
from Oaxaca--their struggle to improve conditions for indigenous
peoples and the challenges women face in this organizing. Textiles from
the Oaxacan Women's Collective will be available for purchase, and
refreshments will be offered. Please scroll for more information or go

WHO ARE THE SUSPECTS IN THE "WAR ON TERROR"?

Talk/Book Reading with James Yee
Former U.S. Army Chaplain at Guantanamo Bay

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2005, 2 P.M.

In 2001, Captain James Yee was commissioned as one of the first Muslim
chaplains in the United States Army. Chaplain Yee was selected to serve
as the Muslim Chaplain at Guantanamo Bay, where hundreds of detainees
captured in the war on terror are being held as unlawful combatants.
After receiving numerous awards for his service there, Chaplain Yee was
secretly arrested. Wrongfully accused of spying, and aiding the Taliban
and Al Qaeda, Yee spent 76 days in solitary confinement and was
threatened with the death penalty. In the end, all criminal charges
were dropped. As Yee’s story shows, we are all potential suspects in
the “war on terror.”

FREE. EVERYONE WELCOME.
