Please distribute widely- MINUSTAH at it again! November 29, 2005 Half-Hour for Haiti: MINUSTAH Attacks in Cite Soleil Thank you to everyone who signed the Petition asking the U.S. Catholic Bishops to support political prisoner and Catholic Priest, Fr. Gerard Jean-Juste. Thanks even more to everyone who has circulated it in churches, community groups and email communities. Some people had trouble accessing the online petition: http://www.ipetitions.com/campaigns/FrJeanJuste should work. If not, email me your name, city and place of worship (if applicable), or download a copy from our website. There is still time to sign or circulate the petition, we will send it in on December 5. Upcoming events: On December 10 (Human Rights Day), the Haiti Solidarity Committee will organize a March for the Release of Fr. Jean-Juste in Miami at noon. This weekâs action comes from the Bay Area Haiti Action Committee (HAC). HAC has received eyewitness reports that soldiers from MINUSTAH, the UN Mission in Haiti are shooting indiscriminately in Cite Soleil, the same neighborhood where peacekeepers killed several innocent civilians in a July 6 attack. Please write and call, to let the world know that people outside Haiti are watching, and care. Urgent Action Alert: New Attacks on Cite Soleil Residents by UN Troops The Haiti Action Committee has received eyewitness reports over the past four days from Cite Soleil that UN troops have launched a new round of attacks on the residents there, killing at least three civilians and gravely wounding others. According to the preliminary reports: * On Wednesday, November 23rd, UN troops killed one man who was a maker of kitchen utensils when they fired into his shop near his home; 5 reported wounded. * Over the weekend, UN troopsâled by Jordanian soldiersâkilled two more Cite Soleil residents, husband and wife, and wounded 8 people. More people could have been killed and woundedâfurther investigation is required. Residents in Cite Soleil are once again trapped and under siege. This could be a massacre that is in the making as we send out this alert. Unfortunately, the UN troops have already demonstrated on July 6th, 2005, and again on other occasions that they will shoot and kill men, women and children in their homes, in their beds, and as they go about their daily chores. Now is the time to act -- to let them know the world is watching and demands an end to the killings!
