Idea for Spring Break Activism _Hi. <from [EMAIL PROTECTED] [yahoogroups.com]> _Young people are probably the best prospects for activism of all age- groups. And Spring Break may be a good time to attract them to the cause. Here are some ideas for activist groups to consider in efforts to recruit more members. _Spring Break this year seems to cover a period from early March to early April. For each college it lasts about a week during that period with some colleges having different weeks. So, if you want to target people at particular colleges, you need to find out when their break will be. _Activists may want to plan a local event during a local college's spring break, and or you could find out where students plan to spend spring break and tell activists in that location. _Activists in areas where students tend to flock for spring break can find out where and when students are likely to arrive and plan events or ways to meet them with your message/s. _You can also plan to go to locations that students frequent for the same purpose. _Print up a bunch of leaflets inviting students to join your group or attend your events; include your location or group meeting place and time and or website or forum address etc. _The Center for Nonviolent Communication [www.CNVC.org] recommends learning effective communication skills and also now recommends sociocracy [www.sociocracy.biz], a scientific form of consensus decision making, which is nonauthoritarian. Communication should include expressing what seems to be the other person's emotions and needs and your own emotions and needs and your proposal for how to meet those needs. The last part may say something like: Would you be willing to discuss for ten minutes? Or Would you be willing to join our forum or attend our event or meetings to help decide how to achieve our goals? _A good resource for finding activists is to register at www.idealist.org and look under "Finding People". _Thanks for hearing my ideas.
