Democracy Needs to Be Non-Authoritarian See the complete meesage at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/IdealDay/message/488.
<This is forwarded from [EMAIL PROTECTED] [yahoogroups.com]> .Hi. I want to mention how democracy can be improved to help insure against war and other abuses in societies, i.e. how it can be made non-authoritarian. As long as such improvements are not made, we'll not succeed in ending the propensity for aggressive groups within democracies to resort frequently to war and other abuses of the common people. .Fixing things like voting machine fraud is important, but it won't get to the root of the problem. .The major flaw in conventional democracy is the reliance on majority rule. This type of decision making allows any majority of voters in any group to force its will on the minority of voters. The rationale for majority rule is that it's better than minority rule and that it's less prone to getting groups bogged down with indecisiveness than is unanimous rule. .The latter rationale is outdated. There are scientifically devised formats by which groups can make decisions more quickly by unanimous rule than by conventional majority rule. I'll explain shortly. [See remainder of article at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/IdealDay/message/488 re problems with majority rule and discussion of scientific consensus as an upgrade for democracy, also a peace plan by which peace, justice and liberty supporters can unify by scientific consensus and have unanimous rule adopted by governments to end abuses of majority rule.
