JOB POSTINGS The Peoples Hurricane Relief Fund & Oversight Coalition (PHRF) was initiated by a New Orleans based coalition of community organizations after Hurricane Katrina. PHRFs central mission is to ensure that those most affected by the hurricane play a central role in decisions made about relief, return and reconstruction. PHRFs focus is bottom up organizing and believes that the greatest relief that can be offered, particularly for poor and working class people of color, is the building of a broad based coalition, directed by local leadership, that fights for the demands of the people. Job Posting 1: Administrative Coordinator (must be living in or be willing to relocate to New Orleans) Job Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Coalition Development Develop organizational workplan Facilitate communication flow between the Interim Coordinating Committee, Work Groups, and Communication Center Staff Build unity among organizations on the local and national level to build a united front effort Publish monthly reports summarizing the major developments and conditions of the Internally Displaced Persons Stay abreast of all information about the relief and reconstruction efforts via newspapers, email, websites Coordinate the 1.800 number Work with Media Coordinator to ensure visibility of the coalition and its work through regular distribution of brochures, posters, fliers, and updating of website Attend regular Interim Coordinating Committee Meetings Work Group Coordination Organize regular meetings of Work Group conveners Establish a system of reporting by work groups and elevating work group projects in the larger community Provide support for Work Group projects and programs Financial Management Regularly monitor the budget Receive monthly finance reports from workgroups and communications center staff Provide financial statements to the Interim Coordinating Committee and post them on the website for transparency Monitor fundraising efforts Job Posting 2: Organizing Coordinator (must be living in or willing to relocate to New Orleans) Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to: On-Site Coordination & Related Responsibilities Manage the development and implementation of community-based organizing & relief activities of PHRF Create a work plan with clearly defined goals, strategies, action plans, and tasks, which will focus on identifying displaced residents; potential and existing community leaders; relief & reconstruction resources; and gaps in services and support for returning and existing residents § Support relief efforts and workgroup projects in the area and serve as a clearinghouse of information about relief services for survivors Coordinate volunteers develop plan to involve volunteers in the work of the PHRF; provide information to volunteers, orient them to the work & vision of the PHRF, and how they can help- encourage them to join a workgroup and/or work on specific projects and tasks Attend regular PHRF Interim Coordinating Committee meetings & assist with coordination of in-person meetings Submit bi-weekly/month reports/updates, detailing work activities, challenges, and feedback Grassroots Organizing Develop organizing/outreach strategy, ensuring bottom up grassroots organizing and community collaborations Organize & participate in canvassing activities to: Support and engage displaced, returning, and/or existing residents in the rebuilding/organizing effort of PHRF; conduct outreach at shelters and/or areas that have high concentration of displaced residents Develop leadership of survivors and support their involvement in PHRF Collect & document stories/experiences of displaced residents Connect residents with resources provided by PHRF & others groups, including legal, environmental health & justice, healthcare, education, and housing/reconstruction Assess needs of displaced, returning, and existing residents in terms of basic needs (i.e. housing, health care, education)- direct organizing work for engaging residents in the work of the PHRF Gather information about available resources (services, programs/activities, forums, events, caring people, neighborhood-based initiatives, etc.) to returning and existing residents Local Financial Management Monitor local checking account Track and document expenses Submit financial reports of income and expenses of the Communication Centers Job Posting 3: Outreach Coordinator (must be able to travel frequently) Survivor Councils Development and Support § Communicate weekly with the National Solidarity Caucus and those already working with Survivor Councils in cities around the U.S. (i.e. Detroit, Chicago, Bay Area, Raleigh/Durham, New York, etc) and support the further development of these councils Integrate Survivor Council leadership and issues with the on the ground work in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast area Identify and communicate with other survivor organizations and build unity Convene regular meetings of Survivor Council leadership of different cities Locate contacts in cities without existing Survivor Councils to begin establishing and developing councils Coordinate story collection of survivors in cities outside of cities where there are existing Communication Centers Coordinate national campaigns around issues identified by the leadership of the Survivor Councils Communications Publish weekly reports detailing the work and needs of Survivor Councils in different cities Produce a resource book for those interested in starting a Survivors Council based on work done by existing groups Financial Management Account for the expenses of the Survivor Councils in conjunction with the National Solidarity Caucus Report expenses on a monthly basis to the Administrative Coordinator Assist Survivor Councils in fundraising efforts _______________________________________________ www.blackradicalcongress.org To unsubscribe from the BRCannounce list email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
