Not Enough Space," an exhibit of art by Puerto Rican
political prisoners Carlos Alberto Torres and Oscar Lopez Rivera,

March 13 - April 12 at Self-Help Graphics and Art,
3802 Cesar Chavez Avenue,
Los Angeles, CA 90063.

The show, vibrant pieces mounted inside a mock jail cell,
is on a tour sponsored by the National Boricua Human
Rights Network. It is co-sponsored locally by the
Puerto Rican Alliance and the Jericho Amnesty
Coalition.
  KPFK-FM is the media sponsor.

Torres and Lopez were not freed when other Puerto Rican
political prisoners were released by Clinton in 1999.
They are powerful self-taught artists who use painting
and ceramics to overcome the conditions of their
26-year confinement, according to Lawrence Reyes of the
Puerto Rican Alliance.

“The art exhibition is very timely,” Reyes said.
“A recent wave of repression by the FBI in Puerto Rico,
following the killing Sept. 23 of Puerto Rican
independentista Filiberto Ojeda Rios, has focused
international attention on the prisoners’ homeland.”
The FBI raids, in which reporters were attacked with
pepper gas, were condemned by activists and law
enforcement in Puerto Rico.

Three major activities are planned to coincide with the exhibition:
· Monday, March 13, 7:00 PM: opening reception and
press conference, featuring the curator, Jorge Felix.

· Saturday, March 25, 7:00 PM: internationally renowned
Puerto Rican artist Elizam Escobar, a political prisoner
for 19 years, will speak. The event will also feature
spoken word artists and musicians.

· Saturday, April 8, 1:00 PM: Noelle Hanrahan of Prison Radio
(who has recorded most commentaries by Mumia Abu Jamal)
and Ray Boudreaux, former Black Panther political prisoner, will speak.

For more information, contact Lawrence Reyes
at 323-878-2275, or Self Help Graphics at 323-881-6444.

The exhibit is free but funds are being raised at the
associated events and at a number of build-up activities.
Donations can be made out to the
National Boricua Human Rights Network,
and sent to ARA-LA,
  PO Box 1055,
  Culver City CA 90232

Just enter your zip code in the site below, and it tells you which
gas stations have the cheapest prices (and the highest) on gas
in your zip code area. It's updated every evening.
