President of Progressive Democrats of Los Angeles and Co-Founder of the California Election Protection Network, Winograd is a teacher and grassroots activist who will vote to cut funding for the war in Iraq and bring the troops home, restore civil liberties denied under the Patriot Act, and redirect the war-billions into quality education and universal affordable single-payer health care. Unlike her opponent, Winograd opposes the confirmation of Michael Hayden as CIA Director on grounds that he violated Americans' constitutional rights. As NSA Chief, Hayden orchestrated warrantless wiretapping and phone record collection on tens of millions of people.
