The first meeting of the KPFK Task Force on ICE Raids Response will take place this Wednesday, July 18, at 7 pm at KPFK Studios, 3729 N. Cahuenga Blvd West, North Hollywood, 91604. The Task Force is a working group of the KPFK Local Station Board Governance Committee. The formation of this task force is designed to address the following, and related, areas: Canvas and research grassroot and non-profit community resources that advocate for migrants’ human rights. Canvas and recommend for referral pro bono legal assistance from qualified attorneys, paralegals and grassroots community advocates and activists. Research and develop a pool of resources to assist affected community members in the event of raids and deportations. Research and develop proposal(s) for a telephone message system to inform affected community members of services and assistance in the event of raids, deportations, and other immigration status resources. Prepare a written implementation plan for the program director, general manager, and LSB within 90 days. Convene or sponsor a multilingual community forum to educate immigrants on their rights, with the active involvement of grassroots and non-profit organizations, and with on-air promotion. Membership: Membership shall be derived from a public call for volunteers from affected communities and from the LSB The committee shall be assigned a chair who is informed and sensitive to the devastation of KPFK’s migrant communities. At Wednesday's meeting the Task Force will need to elect a Chair and delegate responsibilities. See you there!
