I received this from someone else, and normally look at all Sierra Club stuff as suspect, since their major donors are Mega Corporations, but apparently Big Oil isn't one of them.
For those that are unaware, some background data. Alaska Oil no longer comes to Ca to be refined and sent to other US cities, in GW Bush's first term, the ships were sent to SE Asia, to supply the manufactures who make the products we consume, the same products we use to make here.... and our price of fuel more then doubled due to that, not due to the potential shortage due to our invasions in the Middle East. (The US Military is the single major consumer of Oil though). WE were told that the closing of 70% of the refineries in Ca was due to EPA regulations, but the truth is, there wasn't any oil for them to process. The remaining refineries are processing oil that comes out of Ca itself. The Oil from the Caspian Region, is also destined to go to SE Asia and the Indian subcontinent, to fuel the.... yes, manufacturing we use to have here at home to make the products we purchase, form the same corporations that bought out our American Businesses and sent the jobs over seas... for a lucrative tax break by our supposed representatives. A pipeline through Iran would be 10 times more profitable for everyone, including the Military Industrial Complex, Iran can defend itself unlike the others places we've invaded in the Middle East. http://www.ringnebula.com/Oil/Pipeline.htm OK, onto the Tar Sands Oil link below, cause America need the Oil for fuel.....but will it come to your car, or to fueling manufacturing that use to be in the USA? Oh yeah, I hear the leaky tar sands oil pipeline it will create pollution clean up jobs here in the USA funded by US tax payer dollars.... Scott This isn't a local issue, except that we all use gasoline -- and we will not benefit from the transport via pipeline of tar sands' oil.
