Colleagues, Received the following from activist resistor Dave Garcia who is helping to educate/organize resistances with teachers , classifieds now and parents. more to resist savage site program cuts and RIF purges. (Below he replies to UTLA BOD member Dave Rapkin). Now he too is 'targeted' for slander by some of the UTLAs privileged and $$$ patronage ridden officer s eg, like many on the union BOD. and the de-facto officer training group of PEAC. Dave Garcia shows the top union officers have more than a little attitude problem, They just dont give a dump about RIfted dues payers ,so they sign on to rotten TA (and MOU?) agreements etc. and are little helpers for LAUSD/Board which they have $$$$ ties thru PACE. To 'sacrifice' humans careers and lives/ families and yet still be so-called 'US labor movement' officials is contemptible, and disgusting. We can-- must do better than this ! David Rapkin Its david r garcia. How are you doing?? …Look I’ll be brief and to the point, whether you know it or not, I have organized 3-4 demonstrations against LAU$D, with mixed results. When the UTLA “higher ups” decide to endorse an event, unfortunately they have a tendency of taking it over…I’m not trying to be mean, this is just the reality I have experienced in the past. This past week, I got all kinds of emails from two separate groups, however small, asking for help in organizing a protest…which I thought was great. I promised them that I would even show up to their event---and I did, even though it was later in the day. I don’t think its fair that people within the inner circle/ “clique” within UTLA consider me ANTI-UNION… I average about 35-45 hours a week on the computer trying my best to encourage teachers to actively participate in challenging the District… so its an offense that I would be considered ANTI-UNION and an event I would endorse and go out of my way to help people organize, is condemned by the members of PEAC?? Instead of joining in these fleeting movements in solidarity, there were many on the PEAC list that discouraged people from attending or participating in this event… When was the LAST TIME members of PEAC tried to help organize a demonstration against LAU$D? When was the last time UTLA AND PEAC encouraged parents to help defend THEIR schools? …And for all this I am considered “Anti-Union”… *I AM NOT ANTI-UNION,* I am for *ACCOUNTABILITY!* UTLA needs to represent its members and if they are failing to do this, then they need to answer to its membership…what’s ANTI-UNION about that??? Accountability is NOT being ANTI- UNION. Fighting for integrity in a democratic process is necessary to ensure that representation reflects the will of those being governed. In this particular case, UTLA hasn’t done ALL IT CAN TO DEFEND the RIGHTS OF TEACHERS, it simply hasn’t… And for this sentiment, I hear I am going to be banned from the PEAC list…???? Well what about those people that use profanity towards fellow union members on the PEAC LIST?? Don’t they also deserve to be banned for their “ANTI-UNIONIST” demeanor? Because if they are allowed to remain active members on the PEAC LIST while HONEST MEMBERS who conduct themselves professionally are banned for being “Anti-union”, isn’t that hypocritical?? The very people who are offensive on your PEAC list are the ones who are calling the honest people ANTI-UNION…??? That’s WHAT’S WRONG WITH UTLA!!! That’s the very heart of my argument!! You can’t run a union with disregard to the rules. You can’t simply decide to enforce the rules on some people and not others, that’s not being a union, that’s suppressing dissent, and that’s what POLICE STATES do to critics… Is this a union or is it? Because if it is, you will address this issue honestly but if it isn’t---you’ll make some excuse as to why certain rules don’t apply in this case…and you’ll allow honest people (such as myself) to be banned from your PEAC site and rule that actual violators can remain… I will then challenge that decision, and you in turn will suggest I am ANTI-UNION…It never ends! Why not do the RIGHT THING and lead UTLA with moral character and integrity… I want to help UTLA, but because I am NOT in the inner circle, I am objective as to what it is that’s REALLY HURTING US…OURSELVES. We need to work together but there’s too much politics involved…Too many “pseudo-leaders” are obsessed with Political posturing, and NOT concerned with being in the CLASSROOM, so they make decisions that are not in the best interest of the constituency for the sake of personal gain… That’s NOT ANTI-UNION, that’s the truth. ★★★*DAVID R GARCIA*★★★ [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------------------ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- LAAMN: Los Angeles Alternative Media Network --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe: <mailto:[email protected]> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe: <mailto:[email protected]> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Digest: <mailto:[email protected]> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Help: <mailto:[email protected]?subject=laamn> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post: <mailto:[email protected]> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Archive1: <http://www.egroups.com/messages/laamn> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Archive2: <http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yahoo!
