The movement asserted the right of workers to peaceful protests and strikes, in accordance with the law and international agreements and treaties. In their statement released on Tuesday they also demand the interim government resolve workers' issues and meet demands instead of using force to disperse them. "We condemn the use of violence to disperse the peaceful strike and we demand the interim presidency and government release the workers that have been detained during the sit-in's dispersal and allow them to return to their work immediately," the statement said. The April 6 Youth movement also demanded an immediate investigation to hold accountable those responsible for dispersing the strike by force. The striking Suez Steel company workers tried to block the highway from Suez to Ain Sokhna, but were dispersed. Military police also arrested two workers leading the strike. Manpower Minister Kamal Abou Eita, a long time labour activist, has promised to work on releasing the two workers and to head to Suez to investigate the events and support the workers' demands. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/78911.aspx [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------------------ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- LAAMN: Los Angeles Alternative Media Network --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe: <mailto:[email protected]> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe: <mailto:[email protected]> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Digest: <mailto:[email protected]> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Help: <mailto:[email protected]?subject=laamn> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post: <mailto:[email protected]> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Archive1: <http://www.egroups.com/messages/laamn> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Archive2: <http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yahoo!
