Thanks for the info.  I have an update on Bailey.  He got his stitches out today and the results of the biopsies came back.  Since I really don't know what the words I'm about to type mean (other than he has irritation and inflammation that could be chronic), I will type what the form says:

COMMENT:
Gastric edema is nonspecific and likely is secondary to irritation from vomiting or the cause of vomiting.  Lymphoplasmactytic and suppurative inflammation of the small intestine suggests chronic, on-going inflammation.  GMS stains have been requested to rule out any infectious cause.

DIAGNOSOS:
Stomach: Gastric edema, diffuse, acute, moderate;
Duodenum:  lymphoplasmacytic and suppurative inflammation, diffuse, subacute to chronic, moderate

All in all, the vet said he can get back to his "normal" life, to keep an eye on vomiting and if he does in the next few days or so to bring him in to talk about a hypoallergenic diet (read $$$$).  Thanks to all who have responded in Bailey's time of need.

They are very fast in picking up the smell of food. We had a bit of rat poison in our teckroom.  One day when we had a cup of tea we saw one of the dogs eating it. We immidiately went to the vet who gave it vitamine K injection. One of the poeple we sold a puppy to had suddenly problems with their bitch. Getting sick not eating etc. The vet did tests and again it was rat poison. They were just in time but it took a while before she got right. Our dog had no problems after the injection. But we were strait on to it.

I don't believe he was ever exposed, but there's no way to tell for sure.  Would they be attracted to it on a walk around an upper-middle class block if someone put it on their lawn?  That's really the only way I can think of that he would get at it.  Thanks.

My first reaction is that your dog might have eaten rat poison. Did the vet look at that?

Subject: [labradoodles] Stomach surgery on my Doodle

I want to pose something to the group that I am livid about.  On
last Sunday, my male 16 month old labradoodle (Bailey) started
throwing up.  No big deal, it's happened before.  However, this
continued into Monday and he did not eat either Monday AM or PM.  He
continued throwing up into Tuesday AM.  I got him to drink a little
water and he promptly threw it up.  He was pretty listless so I
called the vet.  I brought him in and they suspected he ate
something that was obstructing his digestive tract.  They did a
number of x-rays and saw nothing difinitive.  They then did some
barium x-rays (which he threw up most of--thank goodness he didn't
inhale any).  After about 4 hours and multiple x-rays, only about
25% of the barium that he ingested got to his small intestine.  This
led the vet to believe that he swallowed something that was blocking
the passage between the stomach and small intestine.  She suggested
surgery to remove the obstruction at which point I don't know what
choice I had.  They performed the surgery Tuesday night and found no
blockage.  We got him back home on Thursday evening and he seems to
be holding down food and water (we're feeding a very bland hamburger
and rice diet).  While all seems to be better with him, it incenses
me to think that they cut my doodle for nothing.  They were sending
some biopsies to Iowa State from his stomach and intestine, but
results won't be known for a week or two.

Has anyone had a similar experience and am I right to be livid?
$1,500 later and a dog with stitches up his gut.  I have insurance
for him, but without a diagnosis, it won't pay anything.  Do I have
any recourse?  I guess I should be happy that he is eating and
drinking and is as back to normal as any dog that just had this
surgery.
