Hi Laurie I think that is strange that the guide school
refuse to call him that, so do they say the full name Labrador Poodle
cross, I remember when I first heard it years ago I thought it was a
funny name but then when I saw the dogs I knew then that you just could not
call them by any other name then perhaps gorgeous beautiful lovely and so
cuddly, it was the first time in my life that I have ever made a
decision so important right there and then and bought a puppy, it was the
happiest day of my life. My dogs I only have one now, have brought so much
love into our lives with almost everyone wanting to fuss stroke or ask what kind
of dog he is, and like you I say with a lot of pride he's a
Labradoodle

Subject: Re: [labradoodles] re: other Yahoo groups
I was thinking about this issue as people have been on both sides
of it, about how Mark and other crosses at the guide dog school where I got him,
refuse to call the lab/poodle crosses labradoodles. I'm not sure why they take
this stance, but I call Mark a labradoodle nevertheless. Just something to chew
on and perhaps discuss. Anyone have any idea as to why some people would rather
not call them doodles? I know they don't call lab/golden crosses goldadors at
GDF either as some call them, but I think doodles have become the kind of
designer dog that is as close to a new breed without quite being one as you can
get. There's also the schnoodle, the doodleman Pinscher, etc. There's also the
golden doodle. I think saying that they're crosses of two breeds would just
become too much of a mouthful. What say you? Karen, I understand where you're
coming from, but I have personally made announcements on groups to tell them of
a new yahoo group. In fact what she was doing by announcing it is not being
exclusionary because she didn't want to simply invite people behind backs, but
rather she wanted to make sure all Australian labradoodle owners on this group
besides the ones she automatically knew got this information. In no way did I
think she was suggesting she was better than anyone else, and she did not say
for people to abandon this group, but rather she wanted to create a specific
group in addition to this one for a specific interest. I didn't think that she
thought of Mark or any other American doodle as a lesser dog, but that she
wanted people on this group who have a specific thing in common to have a place
to talk about it. In fact, announcing this to the group makes it less eletist in
my opinion lest she forget anyone in a private invite who might be
interested.
Laurie and Mark, the lab/poodle cross :-)

you can't join you, don't live here. I belong to a homeschool Yahoo group -

Let's keep this issue in
perspective. There are many Yahoo groups that have closed memberships. You
simply need to meet the requirements. Maybe the people who join this new group
just need to justify the money they spent on their non-breed
dogs.

At the risk of being flamed, or worse, I
think this is at rude as one can be and smacks of exclusivity. It's akin
to saying "you, you, and you, but not you, come join my private club".
I'm not sure what makes your doodle better than mine (and that IS the
impression one is left from reading your email) in that they are not a
true "breed" no matter where or from whom they originated, but I resent
being excluded from something marketed on this site and the inference
that my dog is something "less" than your dog.
