Not nessisarily, depends on the female and when you catch her in her heat cycle.  Sperm count on the boys are critical too.   My lab Jade had 7 her first time, 9 her second and this last time had 11............
 
VWB is a poodle problem basically hemophillia.  If the parent poodles are clear no futher testing needs to be done.
 
US can be highly innacurate as to exact numbers of pups.  An xray, counting skulls is actually better if numbers is what you are wanting to know about, especially if she is far enough along.....................did you US your lab when she was carrying lab pups?

I don't do either...........if the dog is obviously pregnant its just an extra expence.  If there is small litter and your concerend of pregnancy all together that is another story.

I am located in So Cal. 1 hour North of Los Angeles.
 
My expecting momma gets to go for an ultrasound on Monday.    She is so large already,  I want to be prepared for any surprises.    She has always had a dozen pups in her litter  but aren't most doodle  litters smaller?
