Hi Janet, I'm sorry to hear about your partner's medical conditions. My partner has done a great job of supporting and loving me through my illness (started in 2001), but I know how hard it can be on her. Hayden was trained by an assistance dog organization in WA, where I live. I belong to another group on yahoo that is about service dogs, if you email me offline, I'll give you that link. There are a couple on the group list, but this one is run by someone I know to be a really knowledgeable and reputable trainer. There are a lot of self trainers and beginner trainers on there. You could learn a lot!
