Right now it's an evolved ad-hoc mess that has actually devolved

So, is this dead then?

I do like the idea of having the Conferences PMC establish a boundary between foundation-specific data and their own. However, should that be a Lab, or should it be a project overseen by the Conferences PMC? In the latter case, you can Just Do It under your own PMC, no need to get Labs involved. However, it'd perhaps be easier to attract attention/collaboration in this space.

The conference and its interaction with the Apache community has many aspects, ranging from managing the web site to allowing the committership to grade session proposals without you having to jump through hoops and manipulate e-mail addresses. Perhaps our own federated ID system that we can use between these infrastructures? But then we're back to the question of how we manage our community's identity information in the first place, the Apache CA, etc. Can of worms. On the other hand, it'd be nice to see/manage the ApacheCon website from ASF svn, and perhaps folks would like to help out with that, too.

Anyway, that was kind of my reaction when I saw your proposal: very interesting, potentially far-ranging and no way I could spend enough of my copious spare time to help out.

Would you be interested in bringing the software/website into the Conferences PMC space?

S.
