Dunno when I really have time to concentrate, but I'd like to help.
Yes, we're community based and meritocratic and all that stuff. And in some cases we have great tools to help get work done (ant, maven, etc., along with mailing lists and wikis). But a lot of the work of the foundation itself is still tied up in crappy little text files here and there, and email threads scattered all over.
I mean, (many of us) are software geeks, folks! Can't we figure out a way to build something better than updating STATUS and having Marvin bug you to send in your board report? It shouldn't be hard to make some improvements. And the data is there already: we might as well make it easier to see, at least internally to the membership (there are some statistics I might agree that we don't want to announce publicly in all cases).
Hmm, although obviously we have to have the data visibility religion arguments (are visible statistics good, or will they destroy all fun in the galaxy), then we have to have the programming language religion arguments (python is cool, sure, but any perl code created after 2006 should be wiped, and then...
