Well, it can be a subproject and go through incubation, the two aren't mutually exclusive. I agree, it would be good to leave Labs on good terms. If anything, it is good to have this discussion so things can be cleared up.

I'm fine with whatever Thorsten wants. Droids has a home in Lucene if it wants it, as the Lucene PMC has voted to accept it. If Droids wants to go through Incubation w/ Lucene (or w/o) as the sponsoring PMC, that is fine w/ me.

Personally, my (broad) view of Lucene is that it is a place for working with content (especially text). Search is definitely the core, but extraction (Tika), crawling (Nutch) and machine learning, information extraction and other NLP ideas, all factor in nicely. Crawling is a part of this, which is why I have an interest in Droids and why I think it fits nicely in Lucene.
