Palm trees do actually grow in Poole - on the road roundabouts and in
gardens. Our climate i warm enough to enable them to survive the winter.
Haven't seen snow in Poole since I moved here six years ago. Quite different
to living on top of a hill in Somerset, where it wasn't unusually to get cut
off by huge snow drifts for a couple of days at a time in winter.

In Torquay on the south Devon coast, palm trees are common. The areas known
as the English Riviera.
