I don't live in a city, but a coastal town. It used to be a series of creeks with oak trees growing alongside the creeks. There are also several mixed wooded areas, so we're OK for trees.
The oak trees have a preservation order on them, and we're surrounded by them even got one in our quite small garden). But those who live in the exclusive area of the town, where there are several so-called "celebrities", want to cut down the oak trees closest to the bay and replace them with something more in keeping with the "maritime nature of the place" - like palm trees!!!!!!!!!!! What's more maritime than the oaks our ships used to be built from?
