On a similar vein, I have a dog with a very delicate digestive system. His
gut isn't complete at the rear end in that the last few inches of the "tube"
from mouth to anus is missing and the anal sphincter is actually inverted
(the vet has terrible trouble trying to find where to put the thermometer).
The vet says it's quite common to find this condition in cattle, but unusual
to find it in a dog. It also includes a deformity at the end of the spine,
and the external indicator is that he has a stunted and completely useless
tassle of a tail, as well as no visible exit to his digestive system. The
vet suggested giving him a tablespoonful of natural bio-yoghurt with each
meal to assist digestion, and it works. What he passes is now normal instead
of more than a bit loose.

I've also found that when I get a bit icky due to the number and type of
pills I have to swallow, a bio yoghurt will settle my stomach. Don't fancy a
daily dose of Yakhoult (sp??) bacterial drink "to top up my good bacteria".
