"Oregon is thawing out slowly. My town has warmed up past freezing so the

snow and ice are melting...." said Alice Howell on the 9th.

Rather you than me, Alice!! I must keep your mail away from DH, I'm trying
to persuade him to visit the South of France at Christmas time, and he
maitains that it is too cold, so he'd flatly refusr to go anywhere just in
case it was like in Oregon :-)
On the other hand, if you are well rigged up, cold weather is probably a
lot less dangerous than the scorching heat we have here, which starts so
many bush fires. Mmmm, any chance of sending us a bit of snow? we could
use it!
It still fairly green around Melbourne, we've had a big flood at the
beginning of December (and most of that water went straight into the
sea!!), but even then, I have noticed there are dead branches on trees
everywhere I've been since December, the trees are slowly dying out for
lack of underground water, it's been so dry most of the year for so long
now.
Good l;uck with the snow and ice,

Helene in hot(tish) Melbourne, hoping it won't get worse.
