If you found that book interesting, you'd probably find "The Classic Fairy Tales" by the same authors (Oxford U Press, 1974) *riveting* <g> The Opies have published a whole slew of books on subjects related to children's literature and language, and all of them are fascinating. As a matter of fact, DH used their "Oxford Nursery Rhyme Book" in his introductory course to poetry, as a standard text (since the 18 yr olds were likely to be familiar with the text itself, but never gave much thought to "dissecting" the rhymes)
