Helene, I now know vitually everything about ANZAC day. So, it's wattle because where Gallipolli took place there is a grove of Wattle and in Adalaide, where Tame Aussie lived last, the light horse was mainly sourced from there so they wear wattle (not the flower, just a sprig of the leaves) to show their allegence.
So, that's why it's wattle. However, as David has said, most people wear Rosemary for rememberance. For WWI rememberance, Poppies are for those remembering the war dead from Flanders because, as in the poem, 'In flanders field ...'. So, I would wear a Poppy in November because my grandfather was in Flanders and also, in the UK, we wear them for those covered both the European theatre of war and the Far East (where my father fought). Also, we have found the site of the dawn service for England - it is at the new ANZAC memorial at Hyde Park Corner and will take place at 5 am on Sunday 25th April - if anyone was thinking of going then they ask that you bring photo id for security reasons.
