There's a report in the newspaper this morning about an ATM which gave out
twenty pound notes instead of ten pound notes. Word soon spread and people
came from around the area to take advantage - one woman even arrived wearing
curlers and a nightgown, in a taxi.

The fact that people were so dishonest is disappointing, but not really
surprising. The one thing that I don't think would happen elsewhere is that
the people queued up in an orderly line to wait their turn to withdraw
money. They even agreed a rule that each person was only allowed three
withdrawals at one time, and then they had to go to the back of the queue
and wait until they got the front of the queue again to make more
withdrawals.

This continued until the ATM ran out of money. The bank concerned estimates
it lost 65,000 pounds, but hasn't yet said what it intends to do about it if
anything.
