Your husband is my nemesis - the cycling stealth pensioner. They look quite innocent, but there are us younger cyclists toiling up a hill puffing and panting, while the cycling pensioner cheerily overtakes and chats with the breath we don't have. It's that doing it every day that gets them fit. I'm just hoping that when I retire I too can become one.
