Over the years I've used every type of cloth, ring, etc.  For me, personally, 
using acetate sheets and then a cloth with a hole in it over the top, works 
best for honiton as you don't need to move the cloth too much.  However, for 
every day lace I'm now hooked on the Kleinhot green horseshoe which I know one 
of the UK lace suppliers also sells - I believe this was Brenda Patanoster.  I 
bought 3 at the Xmas lace fair, last year so I could have them all over my 
pillows!!  And at about a pound a throw they are brilliant.
