When someone who lived in Australia wanted to send me flowers, they sent orchids from a supplier who could post internationally from Darwin. Absolutely wonderful, and they seemed to last forever. Each stem had a glass vial of water sealed around it, and they only took a couple of days to get from Darwin to Dorset.
