Hi everyone,
Christmas this year will be a little different for us in that DD, Judy, who
drove up from Atlanta yesterday (806 miles) with boyfriend, has to go back on
Sunday (Boxing Day). I decided that we will treat Christmas Eve as Boxing Day
and we will eat all the things that we usually never get round to on Christmas
Day such as ham, mince pies, trifle and christmas pud. I am going to make
roast beef and yorkshire pudding on Christmas Day and as her boyfriend wants to
show his skills at making crepes, that will be our dessert. I know, two batter
dishes!! I wanted to drop the yorkshire puds as they usually set off the smoke
alarm but I was shot down by everyone who wants them. Nostalgia rules again
and that is why the christmas pudding will be served on the 24th. I managed to
get some crackers which we will have with our Christmas dinner. Andy, the
boyfriend is still not sure what they are even though DD said there was a scene
in the new Bridget Jones movie where he saw them we
 aring
the paper crowns. One thing I miss every Christmas is the pork pies that we
used to have on the buffet. I have never found anything similar to them in the
states although I was able to get Scottish pies when we lived in Michigan. Not
the same but a taste of home.

I was told to discontinue the stockings a few years ago and seeing as my kids
are 31 and 32 they are happy not to have me creep into the room with a rustling
stocking any more, besides it was getting very expensive to fill them now that
plastic trinkets are not acceptable to them. I did manage to get a Beano
Annual for Andy with a note to share it with DD. He also found it hard to
visualize an English comic book as his only reference are American comic books.
Hope he is not disappointed with Denis the Menace and Desperate Dan (or was he
in the Dandy), but at least DD can share it with him on the drive home.

Today I have packed them off to Chicago to visit the museums, tomorrow I am
going to give them both a requested knitting lesson and on Thursday we are off
to a very nice restaurant for a meal that I don't have to cook.

I will take this opportunity to wish all my arachne friends a happy Christmas
and if that is not PC these days, please have a happy holiday season.

Janice
Crystal Lake, IL where we had a sprinkle of snow last night, with promise of
more later in the week, so we might have a white Christmas after all.

P.S. The local school banned the singing of Wish you a Merry Christmas as not
PC and the kids sang Merry Holiday instead!!
