Cycling
Buses with special day tickets
Trains if you can be the very first person to book a ticket on a
particular journey, otherwise can be horrendous.
But seriously, for longer journeys a pre-booked coach is often the most
economical way.
Depends where and when you want to travel. Peak times of day on the
trains can be 2 or 3 times as much as off peak prices.
