then i will go with the clear nail polish. my bobbins are plain wood, and as pretty as they already are, i am board and annoyed with the brown color. i think black or white bobbins would be more motivating. i've read in two different places about colors that make you more motivated. one says white, but the other says red. red would probably not do well with the pictures i plan to put on the bobbins, so i think i will paint them white. i hope it works out. if i get my scanner fixed i can put a picture webshots of how they look. i'll have to look for the computer disk to download the program.

My first bobbins are easily recognisable because they have little transfers of the Muppets on them :o) Varnish works well to start with but, in my case at least, over the past 15-20 years the varnish has started to go soft and you can scrape the varnish and transfer off some of them now with just a fingernail. Nail varnish might work better than wood varnish, but I haven't tried it.
