Thanks, Suz -- enjoyed reading the scam spam, if that's any comfort! The sad
part is there are actually people who fall for this kind of thing.

Other scams are a little harder to discern. I have seen an ad on TV for
months for some "free" computer training disks, where all you have to pay is
the
shipping and handling charge! Since my mum has been wanting to get some
computer
training, I told her about those ads and said I would watch for them next
time they came on.

When the TV ad came on, I noticed it did not give a web-address, which I
thought was a bit unusual, but only a phone number. I wrote down the name of
the
company and the phone number. Then just to double check what programs they
offered training in, I googled the company name.

I think I figured out why they don't list their webpage on the ad, even
though they have one. On top of the google results list was this company's
website.
Second on the list was a page exposing the company as a scam that charges
exhorbitant shipping and handling charges to cover the costs of their
supposedly
"free" introductory product.

The TV ad itself gave an estimated minimum s/h charge of $6.95 with an
asterisk, stating that costs could be higher, depending on the distance shipped.

You really have to be careful these days, sad to say.....
