I'm sorry, but I've just got to have a real moan.

DH has gone out on photography trip for the day and my washing machine outlet has decided to get blocked! Fortunately I heard the water hitting the floor, so switched off before too much flooding. I don't have the strength to pull out the cooker and the washing machine even though they're on casters to do anything about it, so the washing will have to stay in the water in the machine until DH gets home and can deal with it.

Then I've been doing the paperwork for probate on FIL's estate. Everything's gone well except waiting for confirmation of just GBP200 in one bank account that was joint with MIL. DH and SIL have Enduring Power of attorney over MIL with Alzheimers, which the bank was told when they were informed of FIL's death. The bank say they've stopped direct debts, etc and a statement at the date of FILs death was requested by DH for probate. The bank sent Power of Attorney forms and DH and SIL filled them in and sent the Death Certificate and Power of Attorney forms. Today, two weeks after sending them, the bank has sent it all back with another form to complete - no explanation. I tried phoning but they won't talk to me about the account or even answer general questions which have nothing to do with the account. Just said tell them to fill in the form and send it all back to them. I've just worked out that they originally sent the wrong form for the power of attorney - they sent one for a standard-not-registered-with-the-courts power of attorney instead of an Enduring-registered-with-the-courts one. Still no statement, so we're held up submitting the probate forms for 200 pounds because of someone's incompetence - don't deal with the Alliance and Leicester. I've dealt with the Pensions Service, the Tax Office, two building societies, four banks, three company registrars, five unit trust managers and two insurance companies over the phone. Having proved who I was, they all accepted that one of the executor's wives might deal with the paperwork, and they've ll been most helpful and done what they said they would with sums involving far more than 200 pounds. It's all done except for the Alliance and Leicester, so we've got to hang about eith the probate forms until they deign to get it right and condecend to send a statement for just 200 pounds!!!! Yes I am angry.

So much for a day of lacemaking!!
